straight from the 'thinking bag'....

something which disrupts your self-respect cannot be treated lightly all the time--because soon enough the 'joke' will not seem funny to you anymore and it will be hell tough convincing people to stop laughing then...

self-humiliation is suicide!!

  1. In psychology, self-esteem reflects a person's overall evaluation or appraisal of his or her own worth.

Self Respect is a Relative attribute... Self respect is hurt only is one thinks it can be..... and it cannot be hurt if one thinks it cannot be... don't price it down that it hurts on some bullying

They cannot take away our self-respect if we do not give it to them. ~Mahatma Gandhi.

  3. self humiliation hurts more than someone else humiliating...but it is necc at times...criticism always helps...yeah as they say too much of anythin is bad...whether its good or bad...same goes for this...
it helps to make oneself a better person but if overdone can completely break d confidence

exactly!! ur absolutely right..but often times we stoop a little esp when it comes to people we love (thats when we confuse self-respect for ego and think that love shouldent have a ego) and then we are often taken for granted...only to realise we are losing out on our self-respect almost always a lil too late...

there is a very thin line between self-respect and ego and we should be careful not to confuse the two...
the former is very important while the latter if exceeds a limit, should be chucked out..
thanks for the wise words..much appreciated! :)

    @ jinxed pixie
    absolutely! im glad u agree

    @ meera
exactly! it all starts with the feeling that ur just being a sport but then there comes a time when ur taken for granted and its no longer amusing--thats when it begins to feel like a blow to your self-respect!

    @ rambler
    u mean "sadomasochism" i guess...
well when i write, i dont really consider any kinda altered psychiatric behaviour in mind...
but just in case some sadist/masochist is reading this post and begs to differ, then all i can say is 'whatever rocks your boat, buddy!! i dont understand you but who am i to steal your happiness neverthless??' :)

  9. It's a valid point but I also feel that one should be strong enough not to take oneself so seriously...

  10. Humiliation hurts a lot.

" Whatever you have forgotten, you can remember. Whatever you have buried you can unearth. If you are willing to look deep into your own nature, if you are willing to peel away the layers of not-self you have adopted in making your way through the tribulations of life, you will find that your true self is not as far removed as you think."

there is a big difference between encouraging 'humour' and 'humiliation'---just like there is a difference between 'ppl laughing with u' and 'ppl laughing at u' :)

if you think differently, go right ahead & express yourself..you might help me grow up in the process and i would be thankful.
if you think alike, you can ofcourse talk too..you might help me feel less alone in the crowd and i would be grateful.
Whatever you might think, i would love to know your reaction!!!
